DAVID DALE'S next project is a book called Return to Lunigiana, to be published by Macmillan early in 2004. It's about
a family who has been running a little restaurant on a beach in
north-west Italy for 50 years.

It tells how "Ciccio's shack" was started by two boys who had fought fascism together in World War II, and, when one of the boys died suddenly, how it was expanded by his wife and young son to
become a haven for artists, writers and gluttons.

A war story, a love story and a food story, it shows how the local fishermen, farmers and winemakers supported the family and
built the legend.
